Obituary

Wickliffe Miles Sledge, 89, of Alvaton died Thursday, August 1, 2019 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green. The Warren County native was a son of the late Roy L. Sledge and Ruth Claypool Sledge and husband of the late Laurita Willoughby Sledge. He was also preceded in death by his son, Stephen G. Sledge and brother, Ferril Sledge.

Mr. Sledge was a farmer and worked as a letter carrier, clerk and at the docks for the U.S. Postal Service, until his retirement.  He was a graduate of Alvaton High School and member of Bays Fork Baptist Church from 1953 -2019. He was a Deacon at Bays Fork from 1961-2019, a Sunday School teacher, Church Clerk for 43 years, from 1969-2011 and was a Trustee at Bays Fork. He was a volunteer fireman for the Alvaton Volunteer Fire Department, 3 rd Fire Chief from 1980 – 1981. He was a member of the Gideons. He was a member of the Alvaton Country Folks CB Club, serving as President from 1977-1978.

Survivors include a son, Timothy M. Sledge (Jill); two daughters, Elaine Sledge and Mila Sledge; three grandchildren, Miles Sledge (Sarah), Erica Sledge and Alex Sledge; one great grandchild, Elizabeth Sledge; two sisters-in-law, Chloenita Simpson (Norval) and Barbara Sledge; two nieces, Michelle and Sheila and one nephew, Nelson.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, August 9, 2019 at Bay Fork Baptist Church with burial in the Bays Fork Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home and from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, Friday at Bays Fork Baptist Church.

Contributions may be made to the Bays Fork Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Gideon's International.
