Richard Glynn Simpson, also known as "Pops," 77, of Bowling Green, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He is survived by his two sons, Zach Simpson (Katelyn) and Joel Simpson (Ashland); his three beloved grandchildren, Tyler Simpson, Zoey Simpson, and Theodore Simpson. Richard was also survived by his sister-in-law, Robin Fenwick; nieces Gabrielle and Francesca (Austin); and additional nieces Robin Palmer (Pete) and Glenda Pfaadt, as well as his nephew, David Cox (Patti).

Richard was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 46 years, Connie Simpson, whom he loved more than anything. Their marriage was a true testament to love and devotion, and when Connie became ill, their family and friends came together to help care for her. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Glynn and Dorothy Simpson, and his sister, Barbara Cox.

Richard lived most of his life blind, a condition he had for 40 years, but he never let it diminish his love of life or his kindness toward others. His blindness did not stop him from living fully, and he treated everyone he encountered with tremendous respect. Known for his humility, he was loved by all who met him and never met a stranger.

As a father, he was immensely proud of Joel and Zach, and he cherished his role as "Pops" to his grandchildren. Whether sharing his love of storytelling or enjoying a good cigar with friends, Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep passion for music, baseball—at which he excelled in his youth—and listening to NPR.

Richard was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a member of the Jaycees. He led a successful career as a healthcare physician recruiter. One of his favorite chapters in life was owning Petland in Greenwood Mall, which provided him with countless stories to share. Earlier in his life, he attended the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science and served as a counselor with the Kentucky Department for the Blind, a role that reflected his desire to help others despite his own challenges.

In his later years, Richard was blessed to have a loving caregiver, Katrina Tipton, who he loved like family and who treated him with exceptional kindness and care. Her presence brought him great comfort and joy in his final years.

Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 16, at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Additional visitation will take place on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
