Montgomery "Monty" Wade Scruggs entered into his earthly life on February 24th, 1961 and departed for Heaven on July 20th, 2023 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky.

As he was peacefully swept up by arms of awaiting angels, death had no final victory in keeping him from the open arms of Christ, family and friends anxious for his arrival.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Wanda Scruggs; two brothers, Scotty and Dennis Scruggs; and maternal grandparents, Verner and Opal Manley.

Monty was a devoted family member and friend, never knowing a stranger. He was selfless, humorous, and held firm in his convictions and Christian beliefs. He was also a member of Mission of Life Church. Monty was an avid sports fan, marking each Rams and Cubs game with superstitious belief and passion. From the mountains of Colorado to the oceans of Florida – Monty had traveled most of America and loved every sight seen. While exploring the nation, Monty found a profound love of other cultural dishes and trying new things; the spicier, the better. His love for music, art, a good road trip, and his caring demeanor will leave legacies for him to be remembered by. He will be deeply missed.

Monty left behind numerous family members, friends, and loved ones to cherish his memories. His wife of 20 years, Debbie Scruggs; children, Jamie Singleton (Bryan) and Jimmy Watt (Sam); grandchildren, Haley Pridemore (Bryson), Katie Singleton, and William Singleton; siblings; Jason Scruggs (Erin) and Joy Cardwell (Scott); nephews, Derek Cardwell and Ryan Cardwell; great nephews, Kymani Cardwell and Andrew Cardwell; great niece, Samayia Cardwell; and special canine friend, Deacon; Along with countless friends and acquaintances across the states. Monty was a loved and cherished man.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Tuesday, July 25th at 12:00 PM from Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Bethel Cemetery. Monty's request was for those in attendance to wear their favorite team's sports jersey or memorabilia. The family will receive visitors on Monday, July 24th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, July 25th from 9:00 AM until service time at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Monty specifically asked for donations to be given to Feeding America or Hospice of Southern Kentucky.
