Obituary

Laurita Willoughby Sledge, 86, of Alvaton, Kentucky passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at The Medical Center of Bowling Green. The Allen County native was born on May 13, 1931 to the late Jewell Tabor and Dahlia (Railey) Willoughby. Mrs. Sledge was preceded in death by a son; Stephen Gerald Sledge; grandparents, Tommy and Lena (Tabor) Willoughby and Tom and Genie (Cornwell) Railey.

She loved her God, her family, her church family, her friends and everyone she encountered. She was a Christian witness to everyone she met, including all she encountered in her many hospital stays. She was a member of Bays Fork Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School up to her 85th year, when she suffered a stroke.
She had many hobbies and interests, including family genealogy (which she researched for 58 years), Bible study, collecting, photography and more.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years and 7 months, Wickliffe Miles Sledge of Alvaton, Kentucky; two daughters, Elaine and Mila Sledge of Bowling Green, Kentucky; one son, Timothy (Jill) Sledge of Hampton, Virginia; two grandsons, Miles (Sarah) Sledge of Chesapeake, Virginia and Alex Sledge of Hampton, Virginia; a granddaughter, Erica Sledge of Newport News, Virginia; a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Sledge of Chesapeake, Virginia; a sister, Chloenita (Norval) Simpson of Alvaton, Kentucky; a niece, Sheila (Brian) Voelker of Vine Grove, Kentucky; a nephew, Nelson Trent (Jamie) Simpson of Nashville, Tennessee.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 11:00 am at Bays Fork Baptist Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home. Additional visitation Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 9:00 am until service time at the church.
