June Rose Garrott, born May 6, 1932, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to the late Rose Brite Huffman Garrott and Dr. Lee Thomas Garrott, died at Hospice House of Southern Kentucky on April 29, 2024. June Rose grew up as a well-loved only child whose life was filled with and enriched by relationships with extended family and friends. Her friendships began in Bowling Green and extended not only throughout the US, but throughout the world, wherever she lived, worked, and traveled.
A lifelong learner, she earned an Associate degree at Stephens College; a Bachelor's, two Master's degrees and an Education Specialist degree at Western Kentucky University; and a PhD at the University of Texas. Throughout her career, she taught English at WKU, as well as in Shanghai and Beijing in China and in Kitakyushu, Japan. For nine years before returning to Bowling Green in 2002, she served as a liaison for international students at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
June Rose was preceded in death by her parents and by two of her children, Henry Lee Sinclair and Elizabeth Rose (Libby) Sinclair. She is survived by her son, Thomas Lewis Sinclair (Patricia), and by her daughter, Susan Henon (Scott) and by grandchildren Jamie Lee Williams (TC) and Cory Scott Henon (Martha), by six great grandchildren, and by those who treasured her friendship.
The family wishes to thank June Rose's attentive caregivers over the past six years.
Visitation will be held at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m to 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 4, with a memorial service at 12:00. The private burial will take place immediately following the service at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice House of Southern Kentucky or Warren County Public Library.
