Joseph I. Ryan entered into his heavenly rest September 28, 2018. He was born March 30, 1930 in Russellville, KY to Ernest Lee and Helen Carneal Ryan.
He graduated from College High in 1948. He was a Master Sergeant during the Korean Conflict and thereafter in the reserves. He was a lifelong member of Broadway United Methodist Church since 1943. He also was a member of the Bowling Green Masonic Lodge #73. He worked in the surveying and civil engineering field until starting his own business in 1966 to serve the telephone system until his retirement.
"Joe", as he was known to his many friends, was an avid fisherman and his skills for catching crappie were known far and wide! Camping was also one of his favorite pastimes.
He was married to Bettye Patton Ryan for fifty-four years until her passing in 2007. He is survived by two sons, Bob Ryan (Laura) of Louisville and David Ryan (Lisa) of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Alan (Kim) of Winchester, Chad (Andrea) of Clay City, Jillian of Louisville, Jordan Zuccarell (Tim) of Bowling Green, John David (Brittany) of Seattle, WA, and Amy Kirn (Clay) of Owensboro; and six great-grandchildren. The Family wishes to express appreciation to the Bridgepointe staff at Village Manor. They also wish to thank Dr. John Gover for his many years of care.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, October 4 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home with private burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
