John Carl Van Zee, 70, passed away May 29, 2016, at his home in Russellville, Kentucky. John was born October 29, 1945, in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Carl Edwin Van Zee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Moulder Van Zee, also his second wife, Reva Nell Hinton Van Zee.

Mr. Van Zee was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and worked as a surveyor in Warren County for the Kentucky Highway Department. He enjoyed dancing, riding his bicycle, being outdoors, and spending time with his grandchildren.


Funeral services for Mr. Van Zee will be on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11:00 am at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery following the service.


He is survived by his mother, Rena Doorlag Van Zee, two daughters, Kimberly Van Zee Downey (Todd) and Karen Van Zee Daniels (James); three brothers, Henry Van Zee, Richard Van Zee and Jerry Van Zee; a sister, Josephine Van Zee Orange; four grandchildren, Cameron Daniels, Kylee Daniels, Will Downey and Jackson Downey; and several nieces and nephews.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of Southern Kentucky in memory of Mr. Van Zee.
