John Monroe Collins passed away at Greenview Hospital on April 26, 2017 from a long illness. Born June 17, 1931 to the late James H. Collins and the late Lena V. Johnson Collins. He is also preceded in death by eight brothers, Homer H., Woodrow, James W., Aron, Ralph M., Noel N., J.W. and Guy; four sisters, Viola, Rosa, Mary Rhea and Lucille.
He was a retired electrician and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 65 years. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Collins; in addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Dr. Michael Collins (Susan); a daughter, Kim Young (Jim); a stepdaughter, Monica Blaylock (Ian); a step-son, Jason; six grandchildren, Paul Collins (Mami), Laura Beavers (Joe Dan), Sean Young, Fallon Young, Meghan Young; a step-grandson, Linus Blaylock; four great grandchildren, Emma Beavers, Austin Beavers, Claire Collins, Soshi Collins; two sisters-in-Law, Joyce and Barbara; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, May 1, 2017, at 1:00pm at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm and again on Monday from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
