James Rodney McCurry, 85, of Woodburn, KY passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at his home. The Asheville, NC native was born June 3, 1941, a son of the late James Ray and Dorothy Louise Garrison McCurry.

Mr. McCurry was a graduate of North Carolina State University holding a master’s degree in biology. He was an Electron Microscopist and Biology Instructor for Western Kentucky University. He was a member of Tri Beta, Odd Fellows and First Baptist Church in Bowling Green. Mr. McCurry was very active in woodworking, antiques and Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha Lane McCurry; one son, Michael Rodney McCurry; one granddaughter, Rose Oliver; two grandsons, Michael David McCurry and Daniel Troy McCurry.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 26 at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home with burial to follow at Woodburn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, June 26 at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to First Baptist Church, Friends of Scouting, or the Dr. Larry Elliot Scholarship Fund at the College Heights Foundation.
