James Arthur Cardwell, 89, of Bowling Green passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Signature Healthcare. The Warren County native was born on May 25, 1927 to the late Genie and Delia Marie Brooks Cardwell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vernie Elizabeth Jones Cardwell; three sons, Glendal, Gary, and Ricky Cardwell; and a daughter, Patricia Jones.

Mr. Cardwell served his country as a WWII Army veteran. He worked as a farmer and logger, and was a member of Oak Forest Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Donald Ray Cardwell (Ruth) and Marty Allen Cardwell (Ann), both of Bowling Green; four daughters, Frances Marie Phelps, Connie Guess, Norma Green (Ricky), all of Bowling Green, and Brenda Johnson of Lexington; 39 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 10 AM at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial to follow at Archie-Newman-Wilson Cemetery in Riverside, KY. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 3 – 8 PM and again on Thursday from 9 – 10 AM at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home.
