Dr. Jackie Leroy Carwell (Jack), a native of Ohio passed away (flew his last sortie) at the age of 92 on May 07, 2016 at his home in Green Valley, Arizona. He was born on December 30, 1923. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret K. Carwell, parents Glen L. Carwell and Gladys Harges Carr and his brother Dr. Glenn Carwell.

"Jack" Carwell was a career military officer with over 32 1/2 active years of service. His service started in December 1941 when he dropped out of Male HS in Louisville, KY to join the Army Air Corps. He served with honor, distinction and passion in the 56th Fighter Group, 62nd Squadron during WWII as a fighter pilot of the stout P-47 Thunderbolt. After the war he returned to Kentucky to marry his love Margaret and complete studies at University of Kentucky and then dental school at University of Louisville. Afterwards, Jack rejoined the service, this time as a Dental Officer in the US Army. He also served a tour in Vietnam (1968).

Flying was never far from Jack...as he piloted his own aircraft until he was about 85 years young! Jack's passion for flying was evident all his life…as anytime an aircraft flew over he would glance skyward. Dr. Carwell also volunteered his dental skills to underprivileged children at the Health Clinic in Bowling Green, KY for many years after he retired from military service. He enjoyed a long passion of traveling the world with his wife and children.

Visitation will be from 10am-12pm followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00pm (noon) on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, in Bowling Green, KY. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

He is survived by his daughter Ann Carwell, son Lee Carwell and his wife Janet, granddaughters Shannon Gann, Aimee DaCosta (David), Whitley Hounchell, and three great grandchildren Isaac, Matthew, and Sierra Gann, and numerous Nieces and Nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Please list "In Memory of Jackie Carwell".
