Obituary

Hugh Kenneth Hardcastle, 95, of Bowling Green passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Magnolia Village. The Warren County native was born on July 23, 1921 to the late John Forrest and Hallie Howell Hardcastle. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Louise Walters Hardcastle; a brother, Mitchell Hardcastle (Dorothy); a sister, Lottice Hunt (John Jr.); and a sister-in-law, Earline Martin (Tommy).

Mr. Hardcastle was a lifelong and dedicated farmer. He was a member of Greenhill United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for 70 years. Kenneth was a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church, and was a board member of Southern States Co-op.

He is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Vaughn (Gene) of Bowling Green and Joyce Smith (Damon) of Owensboro; two sisters, Edith Riley (Wayne) of Bowling Green and Doris Hardcastle of Bowling Green; two brothers, Maxey Hardcastle (Renetta) of Bowling Green and Amel Hardcastle (Teresa) of Bowling Green; four grandchildren, Jana Kirchner (Tony) of Bowling Green, Jeana Withers (Preston) of Bowling Green, Lisa Ober of Owensboro, and Matt Carter (Jessica) of Danville; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Carter, Chip Carter, Maggie Carter, Caleb Kirchner, Caitlyn Kirchner, Megan Withers, and Lindsey Withers; three step-grandchildren, Daniel Smith, Shawn Veach, and Tim Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Hardcastle will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 10 AM at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, November 4, 2016 from 4 – 8 PM at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, and additional visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 AM until the time of the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Greenhill United Methodist Church or The Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children & Youth.
