Herschel Dowle Phelps, 83, of Rockfield passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Medical Center. The Bowling Green native was born on November 17, 1935 to the late Andrew and Margaret Phelps. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Gary Phelps; two daughters, Sharon Phelps and Phyllis Hicks; and three sisters, Alice Miller, Rita Phelps, and Marleen Stamps.

He was of the Baptist faith. He worked the assembly line at Straw Sign Manufacturing, along with working part-time as a cab driver.

Herschel is survived by two sons, David and Edward Phelps; two daughters, Sheila Hines and Becky Phelps; a sister, Jo Snell Key; two brothers, Toby Phelps and Andrew "Buddy" Phelps, Jr. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 2 PM at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home with burial to follow at Steel Cemetery. His visitation will be on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 4 – 8 PM and again on Wednesday from 11 AM until service time at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home.
