BOWLING GREEN - Evelyn Crowell Lewis, 98 of Bowling Green died Wednesday, June 14, 2017. She was one of six children born to Horace and Lena Crowell in Laurinburg, NC on December 5, 1918. Following her graduation from the University of Georgia School of Nursing, Evelyn served in the Army Nursing Corps and was stationed overseas during World War II. After the war, she married U.S. Army Major Creslie William Lewis. Following his military retirement they settled in College Park, GA, and later moved to Palm Coast, FL.

In March 2000, Evelyn relocated from Palm Coast, FL to Bowling Green, KY where she resided at Bowling Green Retirement Village and was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church. Evelyn exuded a fun loving spirit and would always tell others she was "supremely happy."

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years and an infant son, Scott Alan Lewis.
She is survived by one son, Steve Lewis (Judi) of Bowling Green, and four grandchildren, Ben Lewis (Danielle) of Louisville, Bryan Lewis (Bethany) of Bowling Green, Katie Mayfield (Paul) of Matthews, NC and Anna Belcher (Mark Alan) of Bowling Green. She was Great Grandma to Rylan, Colton, Sam and Silas. She is also survived by a sister, Louise Anderson of Jacksonville, Florida.
Evelyn knew and studied the words of Jesus Christ. She believed him when he said, "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." The family is comforted knowing that her faith was in the Almighty Lord, Creator of Heaven and Earth.

Being a native Tar Heel, it's only fitting that Evelyn will be laid to rest in Raleigh National Cemetery. Friends and family will celebrate her life with a memorial service at a later date.
