Obituary

Emily Hunter Perkins died September 12, 2016, in Bowling Green, Kentucky at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky. She was born on January 5, 1927, in Louisville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Hugh Barret Hunter and Emily Gilbert Hunter, sister of the late Hugh Barret Hunter, Jr., and sister-in-law of the late Dorothy Perkins Spence. She was the wife of the late John Casey Perkins.

She was a graduate of Atherton High School in Louisville, Kentucky, attended Northwestern University and graduated from Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

She is survived by her son, John Casey Perkins, Jr., her daughter, Emily Perkins Sharp, and son-in-law, Thomas Reid Sharp, all of Bowling Green. She is also survived by her grandsons, Hunter Reid Sharp and his wife, Lindsay, of Chicago, IL and Evan Richard Sharp and his wife, Alex, of Nashville, TN, nieces Susan Hunter Costanzo, Carol Hunter Heineman, Suzanne Spence Joyce, Eleanor Spence Buckholdt, nephew George C. Spence, III, their families, and several cousins. Many heartfelt thanks go to all of her loving caregivers from Timesavers and Hospice.

Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home of Bowling Green is in charge of arrangements. At her request, cremation was chosen and a private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Southern Kentucky, the John C. Perkins Endowment of the Landmark Association, or the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society.
