David H. Mefford, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2017, with his family at his side. He was a loving husband to Mae Swinney Mefford and loving father to Jim and Robin Mefford, Jeff and Lori Mefford, and Doug and Lisa Mefford. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley and Matt Iles, Mandy and Jeff Zimmer, and Jeremy, Audrey, Michelle, Derek, and Lance Mefford, and his great grandchild, Colton Zimmer.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, CW Mefford, Durwood Mefford, Billy Mefford, and Nelda Mefford James.

David was born on August 26, 1930 in Beech Creek, Kentucky to Raymond and Dulcie Grubb Mefford. He graduated from Hughes-Kirk High School in 1947, graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1952 with a BA degree, and graduated from Southern Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky in 1956 with a Masters in Divinity degree.

He served as the full time pastor for Greenwood Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky, First Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia, and Harrisonburg Baptist Church in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He joined the staff at Western Kentucky University in 1965 and served as a loyal supporter and recruiter there for 25 years. While at WKU he continued his preaching ministry through several churches around Bowling Green, Kentucky.

David's love for his wife and family was surpassed only by his love of Christ, and his passion was that all would enter into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. In all of his full time ministry positions he made it a priority to start mission churches that continue to this day. He dedicated his life to the service of the Lord and to the service of others with humility, joy, compassion, and contagious laughter. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Sunday, March 19 at 1:30 PM with a memorial service to follow at 3:00. A private interment will follow at a later date.
