Obituary

Charles Edward Meeks, 100, of Bowling Green passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Hospice of Southern Kentucky surrounded by his family.

Charles was born in Indianapolis, IN on June 14, 1925 to the late Clifton Guy and Ima Hazelip Meeks. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 69 years, Corinne Jackson Meeks. Charles was also predeceased by his brothers, Clifton Woodrow Meeks and Harold James Meeks.

Charles attended Center Street Elementary School where he loved riding down the coal chutes in the 1930's! He then attended BG Junior High School and BG High School.

While at BGHS he met the love of his life, Corinne Jackson. There he played as kicker and guard, and was named Most Valuable Player in 1942. He remained a PROUD PURPLE his entire life.

At the end of his junior year at BGHS he enlisted to serve in the US Navy during World War II and served in Norfolk, Virginia where he attended aviation radio school and tested PBM planes.

He graduated from BG Business University where he was named their Man of Distinction in 1951.

Charles and Corinne married on December 22, 1950 after dating for 7 years, and were inseparable until her death in 2019.

Charles' career was as operations manager at Holley Carburetor and as manager of the 11th and Vine Street plant. He retired in 1986 after nearly 34 years. After retirement he worked as branch manager for Neill LaVille Supply Co.

Charles served as a BG City Council Member and a Warren County Magistrate.

He was an usher at State Street United Methodist Church for more than 60 years and a member of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. His passions were his family, golf, clocks, and woodworking.

Survivors include his daughter, Cathy Meeks Bishop (Mike); son, Cliff Meeks (Janet); three grandchildren, Andrea Meeks Meredith (Pete), Hampton Keith Bishop, and Susan Beth Meeks Albrecht (Travis); and three great-grandchildren, Charlie Albrecht, Corinne Meredith and Bonnie Albrecht, all of who he adored.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 28th at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Visitation will continue at State Street United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 29th from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life beginning at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery #2.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the BG-Warren Co. Humane Society or to State Street UMC.
