Carol Ann
(Riley) Powers
d. Feb 26, 2023
Carol Ann (Riley) Powers was born March 2, 1932 and passed away February 26, 2023, a few days shy of her 91st birthday. Carol was a devoted wife, mother of six children, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Carol was raised at The Baptist Children's Home in Nashville, Tennessee where her mother was in charge of the "Baby Building." She graduated from high school at the age of 15 and went to Union University in Jackson, Tennessee for two years before marrying Charles Kenneth Powers on June 8, 1949. After many years raising her six children and supporting her husband in his military career, Carol completed her college degree and became a teacher. Carol was a lifelong learner. She not only taught 8th grade English for several years, but led Bible Study classes and inspired her children and grandchildren to love reading and learning. Carol's greatest joy though was to partner with her husband, Ken, on their many adventures. They worked together in several small businesses and then in 1984 they founded Community Care Fellowship (CCF), a homeless ministry in Nashville, Tennessee that met the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the city's homeless and underserved population. CCF is still in existence today and known by people far and wide as "Ken and Carol's Place," a fitting recognition of the two amazing people who so selflessly gave of their time, energy, and love.
Carol is predeceased by her parents, Susan Elsie Morrison and John Charles Riley, and her husband of 53 years, Charles Kenneth Powers, Sr. She is also predeceased by two granddaughters, Stephanie Powers and Terri Powers. Carol leaves behind her children; Ken Powers and wife Anne, David Powers and wife Karen, Patricia Jennings and husband Dan, Lowry Powers and wife Nadya, Randy Powers and wife Janice, Colleen Stroshine and husband Eric, in addition to many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Clarksville, TN.
