Bob Brown, 93, of Bowling Green, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at his residence. The Akron, Ohio native was the son of the late Rev. Jack and Ila Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Brown; daughters; Lisa Beth Gifford, Jana Kaye Mulliken; brothers, Tim and Jerry Brown; sister, Sue McClure.
A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Brown moved with his wife and daughters from Paducah to Bowling Green in 1967, when he accepted the manager of employment services position in the local office of the Kentucky Career Center. He was a driving force behind bringing training programs to the area and created the Barren River Skills Center, the first of its kind in Kentucky.
Mr. Brown served as special advisor to the board for the Barren River Area Development District, president and board member of the Bowling Green-Warren County Chamber of Commerce in 1976, deacon and university coordinator and Sunday school teacher at Glendale Baptist Church as well as a member of various associations and community projects.
Mr. Brown is survived by his sister, Jackie Laborda; one son-in-law, Bro. Jim Gifford (Carolyn); six grandchildren, Benjamin Gifford, Brian Gifford, Jacob Mulliken, Nikolaos Mulliken, Lindsay Bragg (Andrew), Emily McKemy (Daniel); and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Additional services in Boaz, KY, include visitation at Hardmoney Baptist Church from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with committal service beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Hardmoney Baptist Church Cemetery in Boaz, Kentucky.
