Obituary

Betty Jean Harmon Hume Mandabach, 87, of Bowling Green passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky.

The Middleburg, Kentucky native was a daughter of the late Rev. Crit Lewis and Mae Catherine McWhorter Harmon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Hume and her second husband, Robert Mandabach; one brother C.L. Harmon; two sisters, Alta Shain and Joyce Hack; a brother, William Gowdy Harmon, who died in infancy.

At the age of 8, she gave her life to Jesus. She was a church pianist from the age of 12 years until the age of 19. She was also an accompanist for two quartets traveling to many churches for revivals and radio programs. She attended Campbellsville College and while there she married Charles Hume. They had four daughters, Pauletta McClure (Norman), of Birmingham, AL, Cathy Dalton, of Hollister, MO, Terri Gilbert (Jim) of Old Hickory, TN and Robbie Stubblefield (Wayne) of Bowling Green, KY

Living in Washington County, KY she substituted for the Washington County School System. After moving to Bowling Green, she completed her education at Western Kentucky University. To accomplish that she taught at Eastwood Baptist kindergarten and also worked at the Medical Center in medical records. She was employed by the Warren County Public Schools for 28 ½ years teaching at both Delafield and Cumberland Trace Elementary Schools. After retirement she worked at the Bowling Green City Schools for 5 ½ years.

Her love for her church, Eastwood Baptist, began in 1963 and she remained faithful until her death. She was pianist for a short time as well as working in Bible Schools. She enjoyed the mission trips both foreign as well as stateside, she was honored to be part of while she was in college and at Eastwood.

Her pride and joy were her girls and grandchildren, Caitlin Tyler, Kelsey McClure-Moore, Ben Dalton, Stephen Dalton, Ethan Dalton, Richard Gilbert, Jessica Germain and Roy Wayne Stubblefield, her great grandchildren, Aubrey Gilbert, Connor Gilbert and Lara Kate Germain.

Graveside Services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Eastern Time, Saturday November 4, 2023 at the Middleburg Cemetery in Middleburg, KY; Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Central Time on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home in Bowling Green. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to  Hospice House, Hospice of Southern Kentucky, 5872 Scottsville Road, Bowling Green, KY 42104.
