Obituary

Betty Jo Cook Gibson, 90, died on Monday, October 2, 2017 in Louisville. Born on August 30, 1927 in Sturgeon Creek, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late S.M. Cook and Pearl Lynch Cook. She graduated from Western Kentucky University where she and her twin sister, Anna, received athletic scholarships as cheerleaders. While attending Western they had their own radio show in Bowling Green and toured extensively under the watchful eye of E.A. Diddle, including performances at Madison Square Garden. One of their performances included seven encores. During this time, they were regulars at the prestigious Renfro Valley Barn Dance and many other venues. Betty and Anna were inducted into the Kentucky High School Athletic Hall of Fame in March 2017.

She was a teacher in the Jefferson County School System in Louisville, Kentucky and later moved with her family to Bowling Green, Kentucky where she taught Sunday School for over thirty years at First Baptist Church.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dee Gibson, her twin sister, Anna Pickens (Jim), brothers Eugene Cook (Rosetta) and Ben Cook (Jackie), and nephews David and Ted Cook, and son-in-law Fred Habermel. She is survived by her daughter Dru Habermel, and son Greg Gibson and nephews Jim Pickens, Jr., Gene Cook (Martha) and Denny Cook (Janice) and niece Connie Johnson(Glen).

The family expresses gratitude for the excellent care and loving support from the staff of Atria Springdale for the last eight years.

Visitation will be at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Saturday, October 7,2017 from 10:00 am -12:00 pm CDT with the service following at 12:00 Noon in the funeral home chapel.
