Bertie Etta Finch, 78, of Bowling Green, Ky passed away peacefully, listening to her gospel music, from a brief illness on Friday October 2, 2026, in Rockfield at her daughter and son in-law’s home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Lindsey and Willie Beller, a sister Novice Ford, and a special niece Dianna Herren.
Bertie cared deeply for her people over the years. Bertie spent her early life caring for her children at home. After her children started school, she worked outside of the home. She then later sacrificed staying at home to care for some of her grandchildren, which adored her so very much. She often stated that Granny was the best title she has ever earned. Her grandchildren loved to spend time with their granny any chance they could get. If you knew her, you knew that she loved worshiping the Lord with music, by singing right along. Bertie had so many creative talents over the years that she could create anything out of almost nothing. She has gained many life-long friends from all of her creative sides from baking cakes, sewing, ceramics, and to the most recent of many years’ floral arrangements. Many would reach out to her from all over just so she could put her loving touch on something special for their loved one. Later in life, Bertie spent most of her time caring for her husband of 59 years and did it with unconditional love for her high school sweetheart. Left to cherish her memories is her family that she loved wholeheartedly.
She leaves behind a son, William Finch (Sandra); a daughter Amy Shelton (Clay). She leaves behind six grandchildren, Nicholas Shelton (McKay), Rachel Reynolds (Ryan), Nathan Shelton (Alexandra), John Finch (Krista), Noah Shelton (Eryn), Natalie Gibbs (Andrew), five great grandchildren, Lily Reynolds, Sutton Shelton, Sadie Reynolds, Penelope Shelton, and Briggs Shelton, and her special fur baby Penny Lou. As well as two sisters, Darlene and Marlene; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bertie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched. Her family is sad but rejoice as they know she is now made whole and walking on the streets of gold with her Savior and plan to join her someday.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 7 at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Additional visitation will be on Tuesday, October 6 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home.
