Elizabeth Carter Utley

Elizabeth Carter Utley, 91, of Bowling Green, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Magnolia Village Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 19, 1921, in Frankfort, Kentucky and graduated from Bridgeport High School. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Maye Gillispie, W.O. Carter, her husband of nearly 50 years, her second husband, W.E. Utley, a granddaughter Pamela White, her brother David Gillispie and sister, Sue Lageman. Mrs. Utley is a long time member of Rich Pond Baptist Church and loved attending every service or activity. She was an active volunteer in the church until her 91st birthday. She and her husband W.O. Carter owned and operated Carter Hardware and Grocery in the Rich Pond community for 17 years. She loved spending Sunday afternoons with the kids and grandkids and was always eager to work a puzzle or play SkipBo.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, February 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Rich Pond Baptist Church with burial in Plano Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Rich Pond Baptist Church. Mrs. Utley is survived by two daughters; Barbara White (Jimmy) of Bowling Green, KY, Margaret Pinkstaff (Pat) of Irmo, SC, one son; Willie Carter, Jr. (Carol) of Bowling Green, KY, one sister; Dorothy Mitchell of Pinellas Park, FL, five grandchildren; Karen Swiney, Kristie Smerowski, David White, Melissa Williams, Megan Pinkstaff, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
